Cancer Research UK Children’s Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence

A joint initiative led by The Institute of Cancer Research and the University of Cambridge, this centre brings together world experts in paediatric brain tumour research and drug discovery. We aim to transform the way new curative treatments for children with brain tumours are developed.

In April 2018, Cancer Research UK (CRUK) launched the CRUK Children’s Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence at the ICR and the University of Cambridge to drive progress in paediatric brain cancer research.

The centre convenes a critical mass of expert personnel, infrastructure and global collaborations in paediatric brain tumour biology, medicinal chemistry and pharmacology. The centre fosters global reach and unites its members through an international community of aligned experts, the International Children’s Brain Tumour Board.

At the ICR, we are applying our expertise in medicinal chemistry to develop new small molecule therapeutics and chemical tools to understand cancer biology.

Staff Scientist:

Medicinal Chemistry 3 Dr Lindsay Evans

I am a medicinal chemist with a background in both anticancer and antimicrobial drug discovery. I joined the newly established Children’s Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence (CBTCE) in November 2019 and have been working in collaboration with the University of Cambridge to initiate the Centre’s first research projects. The aim of the CBTCE is to transform the way we develop treatments for children with brain tumours. I am interested in developing new small molecule therapeutics and chemical probes to interrogate cancer biology.

Senior Scientific Officer:

Medicinal Chemistry 3 Dr Jack O'Hanlon

I am a medicinal chemist working within the Children's Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence on the synthesis of new compounds for the treatment of paediatric ependymomas.

Dr Manasa Punaha Ravindra

Postdoctoral Training Fellow:

Medicinal Chemistry 3 Headshot of Manasa Punaha Ravindra

I am a Medicinal Chemist by training. I recently joined as a Postdoc (Aug 2022) in the Children’s Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence (CBTCE) Team which aims to develop targeted therapy for the treatment of brain cancer in children. My interests are drug design and synthesis for the development of targeted small molecule therapies for currently difficult to treat diseases.
