Honorary Appointment:
Sarcoma Clinical Trials (R Jones)Professor Robin Jones is Group Leader in Sarcoma Clinical Trials at The Institute of Cancer Research and Consultant Medical Oncologist at The Royal Marsden. He is a specialist in the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas, and focuses on developing novel therapies for these diseases.
The Sarcoma Clinical Trials in Children and Young People Group aims to improve the outcomes of children and young people treated for soft tissue sarcoma – particularly high-risk and relapsed rhabdomyosarcoma – through the development of novel targeted therapies.
Since paediatric soft tissue sarcomas are very rare, this will be achieved through collaborative clinical trials at national and international level, working in partnership with translational and preclinical researchers.
The group work closely with the Sarcoma Molecular Pathology Group in the ICR, to use preclinical data to determine treatment intensity for patients with rhabdomyosarcoma and to introducing drugs against relevant therapeutic targets.
Close collaboration with the European Paediatric Soft Tissue Sarcoma Study Group and Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer allows the group to develop relevant clinical trials to test new sarcoma treatments in children and young people.
