STAR-TRAP
A trial of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) to delay the spread of metastatic prostate cancer.
Disease site:
Treatment Modality:
Status: Enrolling participants
What is the study about?
STAR-TRAP investigates treatment options for prostate cancer which has grown in small areas around the body (metastatic prostate cancer).
People with metastatic prostate cancer usually have drug treatment called hormone therapy. This helps to reduce the level of hormones in their bodies and slow prostate cancer growth.
Stereotactic Radiotherapy, also called SBRT, is a type of very precisely targeted radiotherapy treatment.
- STAR-TRAP is investigating whether SBRT can slow the spread of prostate cancer which has grown in small areas around the body.
STAR-TRAP will investigate whether adding SBRT to the usual drug treatment can help reduce the chance of peoples’ cancer spreading further.
Who is included in the study?
The study will recruit 236 people with advanced prostate cancer from at least 20 hospitals across the UK.
STAR-TRAP includes two groups of people:
1. People who had a reduction in the number of areas of cancer within their body during hormone therapy.
2. People whose cancer started growing in small areas during hormone therapy.
What are the study treatments?
Everyone who joins STAR-TRAP will be in one of two treatment groups. People taking part will either:
- Continue on hormone therapy.
- Continue on hormone therapy plus SBRT treatment targeted at their prostate and areas that the cancer has spread to.
Participants will have regular check ups during and after their treatment and we will collect information about how they are getting on until the study is completed.
