Grandfather’s memory inspires challenge to Mount Kilimanjaro

Fundraiser Sean Chinn embarked on the challenge of a lifetime when he set off to Tanzania to climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. He raised an impressive £3,800 for world-leading cancer research at the ICR.

Sean took on this challenge in memory of his grandfather who was diagnosed in October 2009 with stomach cancer and unfortunately passed away six months later.

Sean said: “My grandfather was a strong man both physically and mentally and his illness affected the whole family. Unfortunately he passed away four days after his 78th birthday which left our family devastated. I realised then that I wanted to do something positive in his memory and help to prevent others from suffering from this terrible disease. Climbing Kilimanjaro was an amazing experience – as was being able to support research at the ICR.”

Congratulations to Sean for completing this challenge and raising an excellent amount for our ground-breaking research.

If you are inspired by Sean’s story, and would like to find out more about doing a Kilimanjaro trek or another challenge to support our work, please see our Sports and Challenges event listings throughout 2015 and 2016.
