In august Lucy O’Donnell, a mother of three teenagers and author of the book ‘Cancer is my teacher’ and her friend Lucinda will be walking the beautiful South Downs Way to raise funds for The Institute of Cancer Research.
Lucy has Stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her bones and liver. Following extensive treatment Lucy is currently well, but she is keen to do all she can to support the ICR’s world-leading research into the causes of cancer, to develop viable treatments for the disease and give cancer patients reasons to be hopeful. She has already raised £4,724 and hopes to raise more over the coming weeks.
Starting in Amberley in West Sussex, Lucy and Lucinda will walk a challenging 60 miles along the south downs ending up in Eastbourne. Over four and a half days they will pass through some of the most stunning scenery in southern England including the Cuckmere Valley, the Seven Sisters Country Park, Beachy Head and the Belle Tout lighthouse.
Lucy says: “I feel so incredibly grateful to be well at the moment and to have received such wonderful care from the medical profession and support from all my family and friends. I am keen to do all I can to raise money to support the vital work that the ICR does and to help them to continue to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.”
