Celebrities Prove That The Tache Is Back

Friday 15 August 2003

Dermot O’Leary, Ralf Little and Ross Kemp are just some of the celebrities encouraging all men to take the ‘tacheback challenge’ and grow a tache during September and raise money for Everyman, the male cancer campaign.

These celebrities sporting their taches are in this month’s GQ magazine which is also backing the campaign. Shot by celebrated photographer Jason Bell, the line up includes Sean Hughes, Paul Kay, Richard Bacon and famous designers, Paul Daley and Wale Adeyemi - all celebrating the hairy revival.

GQ’s editor Dylan Jones is calling on all of his editorial team to grow a tache and will be showing why it is the latest fashion craze in the September issue of GQ (on sale from 7 August). Dylan said, “We’re simply making the declaration: for one month – and for one month only – moustaches are totally, completely and undeniably cool.”

This stylish charity challenge is easy to do although there are a few rules. Growth should happen during September and beards are not allowed. However, there’s no hard training, no blisters and surprisingly little itching. Whichever style of tache you go for, whether the strong and manly Tom Selleck tache or the trimmer style of Des Lynam, you can guarantee that your efforts won’t go un-noticed – in fact you should be warned that you will inevitably become the centre of considerable attention.

Justin Carter, creator of Tacheback and owner of the Elbow Rooms said, “Taches are becoming a real growth area and I think all of us have a secret desire to know what we would look like with extra facial hair. Here is the best opportunity to grow a tache, become a style icon in your own right and raise money for a worthwhile cause.”

Everyman was set up by The Institute of Cancer Research in 1997 specifically to raise awareness of and funds for prostate and testicular cancers. All the money raised by this campaign will go directly towards supporting research at the only dedicated male cancer research centre that was set up by The Institute.

Philip Black from the Everyman Campaign said, “Although Tacheback could be seen as quite a hairy experience for some it should be a fun challenge which every man can get involved with. We hope to raise a lot of money for our charity so that our scientists can find out much more about testicular and prostate cancers.”
