Update of the Interactive Education Unit Website

Thursday 10 June 2004

Whether you're directly affected by cancer, want to find out more about it, or are a scientist, student or healthcare professional, The Institute’s Interactive Education Unit (IEU) has something for you. In June 2004, the site (www.ieu.icr.ac.uk) received its latest update - here’s a flavour of some of our most recent project news:

  • In collaboration with clinical experts at The Institute, our conformal radiotherapy website is now really taking shape. This resource will educate oncology clinicians and trainees in the use of this innovative technique in patients with localised prostate cancer. See if you can match the experts’ skills in outlining critical structures in the working tool demo on our site.
  • ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ – our popular and award winning interactive CD ROM on the management of breathlessness in lung cancer is going to be updated! The new version should be available in early to mid 2005; until then you can get a free copy of the existing resource from our dedicated orderline
  • We are pleased to announce the development of a new CD ROM project focusing on the area of pain management in cancer. The program will provide a comprehensive overview of the field and is being developed in collaboration with colleagues in the Royal Marsden NHS Trust.
  • Interested in the science of cancer? The pilot version of Perspectives in Oncology - the cancer science website, has almost reached the end of its testing stages and will be launched internally in late June. This resource will communicate fundamental concepts of cancer science and provide the user with a thorough, connected grounding in all aspects of cancer research and treatment. The site is aimed initially at Institute PhD students, but we hope to launch an external version in the future.
  • In this update, lung cancer is the theme of our latest website reviews - read these and existing reviews of other cancer and education websites in the ‘Links’ section of our site.

The Interactive Education Unit was established in 1999 to promote and disseminate the educational, research and clinical activities of The Institute in order to improve the treatment, care and quality of life of people with cancer.
