The Institute Launches its New Website

Friday 10  March 2006

Europe’s leading cancer research centre The Institute of Cancer Research today launches its new website www.icr.ac.uk.

The new fully interactive site showcases The Institute’s scientific advances and raises awareness of its world-class research, while encouraging involvement and donations.  The site clearly and effectively addresses the needs of a range of audiences including the international research community, potential staff, people affected by cancer, medical practitioners, students and charity supporters.

Dany Maneely, Corporate Publications Manager at The Institute, commented,  “As a world class research organisation, a higher education institution and a charity, The Institute’s website has a number of key audiences, including scientific researchers, students and members of the public. The new website reaches out to all of these different audiences and meets their needs in a simple, easy to use and stylish format.”

The Institute worked with external service providers Underwired, Percussion and Unified Solutions to deliver the site. Underwired, a specialist digital and eCRM agency, was responsible for restructuring the 1,500-page site, providing Information Architecture, usability and interface design and overseeing the procurement procedure for a Content Management System (CMS).  Percussion, a leading developer of practical software solutions, supplied the enterprise content management (ECM) solution, Rhythmyx, in which the new site is held. Unified Solutions, a well-established software and systems integrator which works in partnership with Percussion, fully implemented the Rhythmyx software to the required specifications.

The Institute of Cancer Research is one of the world’s leading cancer research organisations and is internationally renowned for the quality of its science.  Its mission is the relief of human suffering by pursuing excellence in the fight against cancer.
