Biography

Dr Sally George is a Paediatric Oncologist and a CRUK Clinician Scientist with an interest in paediatric solid tumours, specifically the common, poor outcome childhood tumour, neuroblastoma.

Dr George completed her paediatric clinical training in South East England followed by subspecialty training at Great Ormond Street, University College, and the Royal Marsden Hospitals. After obtaining her consultant qualification in 2014 she undertook a PhD at ICR, followed by a Clinical Postdoctoral Fellowship at The Francis Crick Institute.

In 2021, Dr George was awarded a CRUK Clinician Scientist Fellowship. Her laboratory-based research is focused on gaining a better understanding of how key changes during foetal development result in neuroblastoma in children - and using this knowledge to identify new treatments for children who are not cured by currently available therapies.

Alongside her laboratory work, Dr George is also involved in running clinical trials and precision medicine initiatives. She is the chief investigator of a transatlantic clinical trial for children with relapsed and refractory neuroblastoma, which is directly based on her laboratory research. She is a member of the UK NCRI Neuroblastoma Clinical Trials Group, the Paediatric Strategy Group of the ECMC and the European Clinical Trials Consortia: SIOPEN (European Society for Paediatric Oncology – Neuroblastoma) and ITCC (Innovative Therapies for Childhood Cancer).
